AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL: Wilder Senior swept by Lakeside teams

ISSAQUAH — The Wilder Senior Baseball Club had a frustrating weekend, losing four straight to Lakeside Recovery and Lakeside BR.

Wilder was swept by Lakeside Recovery 7-1 and 8-0 on Saturday in Bellevue and lost 8-0 and 8-6 to Lakeside BR on Sunday in Issaquah. That Sunday shutout was a no-hitter by Lakeside BR.

“We didn’t play very well. It was pretty disappointing for our guys,” said coach Zac Moore. “Unfortunately, the scores didn’t show how well we hit the ball.”

Moore said the 8-6 loss was actually the most frustrating game of the weekend because Wilder Sr. let it slip away.

“We had a chance win that game. We were in control of it early. We have to learn how to put teams away,” he said. “Ultimately, I feel bad for the kids. They’re working hard. These kids are really talented.”

The pair of sweeps put Wilder Senior at 3-5 in AAA Region A American Legion play, in fourth place.

Wilder Sr. will try to bounce back this weekend at the second annual Nate Steffen Memorial Tournament at Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon. Wilder Sr. is the defending champion of this tournament.

Wilder Sr. returns to Port Angeles from June 30 to July 3 for the 24th annual Dick Brown Memorial Tournament.
