AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL: Wilder Senior rallies to win season opener

PORT ANGELES — The Wilder seniors opened up their season with a dramatic come-from-behind 5-3 win Saturday over Bellingham Post No. 7 behind four innings of no-hit ball from pitcher Timmy Adams.

Wilder is primarily made up of Port Angeles High School players. As Roughriders, these same players won the Olympic League 2A Division championship and the West Central District III 2A championship. Last year, Wilder Senior went 22-4 on the season.

Bellingham got off to a 3-0 start in the first inning as Wilder allowed three unearned runs. The score remained 3-1 until the bottom of the sixth when Wilder broke through for four runs to take the lead.

In the sixth, Wilder’s Milo Whitman had an RBI double to score Bo Bradow. Whitman and Wyatt Hall came in to score on a Bellingham error on a grounder to make it 4-3 Wilder.

Later in the inning, Tyler Bowen knocked in Adams on a single to give Wilder an insurance run going into the seventh.

Bradow started the game, going three innings and giving up three runs, all unearned. Adams went the final four innings, giving up no hits and two walks. He struck out three.

Joel Wood went 2 for 4 at the plate with a run scored and Bowen went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Bradow and Whitman each had doubles, with Whitman scoring one run, driving in another and also getting on base with a walk.

Saturday’s opener was a nonleague contest. Wilder played two more league games with Bellingham Post at Civic Field on Sunday. Look on www.peninsuladailynews.com tonight and in Tuesday’s sports section for photos and results of those games.
