PORT ANGELES — The Wilder Seniors showed it all — pitching, defense and lots of hitting — in a doubleheader sweep over the Blaze.
Wilder remained unbeaten on the season after Sunday’s 7-4 and 11-1 wins over the Blaze, based in Belfair. Wilder tallied 22 hits, struck out 18 batters and made just two errors in the two wins, pushing the team’s season record to 5-0. In those five wins, Wilder has allowed a total of just 12 runs.
In Game 1, Joel Wood went 2 for 3 with a double, two runs scored, a walk, a stolen base and an RBI. Ethan Flodstrom went 2 for 2 with two runs scored, a stolen base, a walk and an RBI.
Milo Whitman hit 2 for 2 with an RBI and a walk. Tyler Bowen went 1 for 1 with a run, an RBI and two stolen bases. He also got on base two other times after being hit by pitches. Bo Bradow was 1 for 2 with a run and an RBI.
On the mound, Wilder pitchers struck out 10. Brody Merritt started, going two innings and giving up one earned run on two hits, while striking out three. Seth Scofield went two innings, giving up one hit and two walks while striking out two. Jadon Seibel went an inning and a third, giving up three earned runs on two hits and four walks.
Bowen finished the game out, going 1 2/3 innings, striking out two while giving up two hits and no runs.
In Game 2, four Wilder pitchers combined for a two-hitter. Hayden Woods started, going two innings and giving up no runs on one hit, while striking our four. Flodstrom went two innings, giving up no hits and no walks while striking out three.
Carson Ness pitched an inning, giving up a hit, two walks and an earned run. Timmy Adams finished up, allowing no hits and one walk in an inning’s work. He also struck out one.
At the plate, Wood again had a big game. He went 3 for 4 with two doubles and three runs scored. Flodstrom went 2 for 3 with a run scored and two RBIs, while Wyatt Hall went 2 for 2 with a double, three runs scored, a stolen base and a walk.
Lucas Jarnigan went 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Merritt had a double, a walk and two RBIs, while Milo Whitman went 1 for 2 with a run, RBI, walk and sacrifice fly.
Wilder next plays Saturday, Sunday and Monday at Civic Field with games Saturday against Snohomish, Sunday against Lakeside and on Monday against Mercedes-Benz.

WENATCHEE — Wilder Jr. had the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning in the championship game of the Apple Valley Baseball Invitational, but couldn’t come up with a big hit to pull the game out.
Wilder Jr. lost the championship game 8-7 after the Columbia Basin River Dogs scored four runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead.
Still, Wilder Jr. won three out of four games at the tournament, pushing their record to 7-3 on the season.
“I thought we played great. It was a big weekend for us,” said coach Zach Moore. “We banged the ball around the yard and played defense extremely well.”
In the four tournament games, Wilder Jr. scored a total of 56 runs and smacked 52 hits. They also made just four errors the entire weekend.
In the championship game played Sunday afternoon, it was a back and forth affair with Wilder Jr. taking a 6-4 lead into the seventh inning. The River Dogs scored four runs on bases-loaded walks, but Beckett Jarnigan ended the bleeding by coming in to the game and striking out a batter and getting another to ground out.
In the seventh, Wilder Jr. rallied. Kamron Meadows started the rally with a hit and Silas Thomas walked. Zach McCracken loaded the bases when the River Dogs made an error on a grounder.
Logan Olson drove in a run with a groundout to make it 8-7, but a strikeout ended the threat.
Joey Hildebrandt had a double and three RBIs, while Adam Watkins went 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Jarnigan had a double and a run scored, while Meadows hit 1 for 1 with two runs scored, two walks and a stolen base.
Wilder Jr. next plays four games on the road this weekend, with two games in Bellingham on Saturday against Bellingham and Meridian and two games Sunday in Anacortes against Anacortes and Burlington.
