AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL: Wilder Jr. gets a shutout for a win

SEDRO-WOOLLEY — Wilder Junior’s Carson Windle pitched an absolute gem Sunday, striking out 14 batters and shutting out Sedro-Woolley 5-0.

The win puts Wilder Jr. at 3-2 for the season. Wilder Jr. split a doubleheader against the Kitsap Rebels on Saturday.

Back to Sunday’s game, Windle nearly went the whole way, pitching 6 2/3 innings, allowing just two hits and no walks. Trey Baysinger got the final out to pick up the save.

It was Windle’s second outstanding outing this season for Wilder Jr. He gave up no runs and one hit in a previous victory over Mount Vernon. In 10 1/3 innings so far this American Legion season, Windle has an ERA of 0.00 and has given up three hits.

Wilder Jr. didn’t get a ton of hits, just six, as it was a pitchers’ duel. Adam Watkins had a hit and an RBI, while, Joey Hildebrandt, Michael Grubb, Beckett Jarnigan and Silas Thomas each had a hit and a run scored.

Logan Olson had an RBI, while Zack McCracken had a hit.

Saturday’s games

BREMERTON — Wilder Jr. split a pair in a doubleheader with the Kitsap Rebels on Saturday, cruising to a 12-2 win in Game 1 and falling 8-7 in Game 2 in extra innings.

Wilder Jr. managed plenty of offense, collecting 20 hits, including nine extra-base hits in the doubleheader.

In Game 1, pitchers Seth Woods and Thomas pitched a gem, combining for a five-hitter. Woods went four innings, giving up two hits and an earned run, while striking out five and walking four to earn the victory. Thomas went the final three innings, giving up three hits, an earned run, four strikeouts and two walks.

At the plate, Joey Hildebrandt hit two doubles, driving in one run and scoring a run. Landon Seibel went 2 for 5 with a run scored and an RBI, while Adam Watkins went 2 for 4 with two runs scored, three RBIs and a walk.

Baysinger hit a double, scored two runs and drove in two and walked once. Silas Thomas hit a double with a run scored and two walks and McCracken went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a walk.

In Game 2, Wilder Jr. got up 7-3, but the Rebels were able to knot it up at 7-7 with a four-run seventh inning. In the bottom of the eighth, Kitsap got a base hit with a runner on second base for a walk-off victory.

Kamron Meadows hit a home run for Wilder Jr. and added an RBI single and a stolen base. Watkins hit a triple, scoring a run, driving in two and walking twice.

Trey Baysinger went 2 for 5 with a double, a run scored, two RBIs and a stolen base, while Hildebrandt went 2 for 4 with a double, a run scored, an RBI and a walk. Seibel went 1 for 1 with two walks.
