AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL: After a one-year hiatus, Wilder Sr. begins season with pair of wins

PORT ANGELES — The Wilder Senior Baseball Club began its 2021 season after a one-year hiatus with a pair of big wins over South Kitsap on Sunday.

Wilder beat the Lobos 13-2 and 8-0, with a quintet of pitchers throwing a two-hitter.

Wilder this year features a mix of Port Angeles, Forks and Sequim players with one player, Logan Urvina, a Forks resident who pitched for 4A Emerald Ridge in Puyallup this past year.

Urvina began the first game and went three innings, striking out six batters and not allowing a hit. Trey Baysinger, also of Forks, pitched the final inning and struck out the side.

Urvina struck out the side in the third on nine pitches, known in baseball as an “immaculate inning.”

“Urvina pitched an immaculate inning in the third, all with fastballs. One of the most amazing things I have observed as a coach,” said head coach Zac Moore.

Port Angeles’ Landon Seibel, Seth Woods and John Vaara pitched three innings, giving up two hits and striking out one.

Logan Olson (Forks) had a double, going 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Port Angeles’ Wyatt Hall had a triple, scored two runs and had an RBI. Sequim’s Michael Grubb went 2-for-3 with a double and scored a run.

Kamron Meadows (Port Angeles) also went 2-for-3.

In the second game, Olson started the game and went 2⅔ innings, striking out four. Adam Watkins, Ty Bradow and Meadows (all Port Angeles), went the final 1⅓ innings, giving up one hit and no runs while striking out four.

“Good relief pitching and timely hitting led to an explosive game at the plate,” Moore said.

Wilder blew up a close game with six runs in the fifth inning.

At the plate, Port Angeles’ Jacob Felton had a triple with a run scored and an RBI. Hall had a hit, a walk and two RBIs, Tanner Price (Port Angeles) had a hit, a run, a walk and three RBIs.

Grubb had a hit, run and an RBI, while Seibel went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Sequim’s Conner Bear had a hit, a run and an RBI. Woods had two walks and two runs scored.
