AMERICAN LEGION AA: Wilder Junior has solid weekend with three wins

SELAH — Wilder Junior won three out of four this weekend at a tournament in Selah, scoring three runs in the sixth inning to beat Anacortes 5-2 on Sunday.

Wilder Junior also beat the Sunnyside Monarchs 15-2 on Saturday night, lost to FG Plakata 18U on Saturday and beat the Yakima Valley Peppers 5-4 in extra innings Friday.

Hunter Stratford had a big RBI double in the sixth inning to help Wilder Junior win Sunday. Bryce Deleon also had an RBI single in the inning. Brandt Perry also hit a double.

On the mound, Braedyn Boulden, Carston Seibel and Logan Doyle combined to allow just four hits while striking out 11.

Wilder Junior now has a season record of 11-7.

Saturday, Friday games

In Saturday’s game, Wilder Junior collected 12 hits, including six extra-base hits, while Perry allowed just four hits on the mound. Perry went five innings, allowed four hits and two earned runs. He struck out seven.

Nine Wilder Junior players collected hits. Ian Smithson was 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored. Seibel was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, a run scored, a stolen base and a walk. Rylan Dunn was 2-for-2 with a triple, a run scored, a stolen base and three RBIs.

Deleon hit a triple and had two RBIs, Boulden had a double and a run scored and an RBI and Lincoln Bear hit a double with three runs scored, an RBI, two stolen bases and a walk.

In the Peppers game, Wilder Jr. was tied 3-3 after seven innings and scored two runs after Clay Abrams led off the eighth with a double. Deleon drove him in with an RBI single.

Wilder Jr. then used small ball to manufacture an insurance run, which turned out to be the winning run. Ryland Proiette had a bunt single and moved to second on a bunt sacrifice by Carson Waddell. Smithson drove in a run with a bunt single

On the mound, Boulden went 4⅓ innings, allowing two hits and two earned runs. Dunn went 3⅔, allowing three hits, an earned run and striking out one.

Deleon went 3-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base. Smithson was 2-4 with run, an RBI and two stolen bases. Bear was 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored.

In the early game, Wilder Jr. managed just one hit, by Bear, who also scored the lone run of the game.

Deleon took the loss, going four innings and allowing seven hits and four earned runs. He struck out three. Owen Leitz went two innings, allowing one hit and striking out one.
