AMERICAN LEGION A: Wilder A splits doubleheaders with Maple Ridge Royals

PORT ANGELES — Wilder A has won two out of four games against the visiting Maple Ridge, B.C., Royals this weekend, getting near-perfect pitching in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday.

The Royals beat Wilder A 4-2 on Sunday after Wilder A won 3-2 and 7-1 on Saturday. The Royals later won 12-2 late Sunday.

In Sunday’s early game, the Royals’ pitching allowed just four Wilder A singles. Ethan Swenson, Abe Brenkman, Kade Acker and Aidric McBride all had single.

On the mound, Khyler Thompson-Fowler began the game for Wilder A, going 4â…“ innings and allowing five hits and three earned runs. He struck out one. Zach Debray pitched 2â…” innings, allowing two hits and striking out three.

Saturday doubleheader

The Wilder A (2-2 overall) club got solid pitching in both games Saturday, beating the Maple Ridge, B.C. Royals 3-2 behind Swenson and McBride, then beating the Royals 7-1 in the nightcap behind Peter Pavlak.

Swenson and McBride combined to allow just two hits. Swenson went five innings, gave up two hits and two earned runs while striking out four. McBride worked two innings, striking out two and allowing no hits.

Debray provided most of the offense, going 2-for-3 with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring McBride, who had singled earlier in the inning and moved to second on a balk. Debray finished with three RBIs for the game, driving in all of Wilder A’s runs.

In the night game, Pavlak went the distance, going seven innings and allowing five hits and one run.

At the plate, Thompson-Fowler hit a double, drove in a run and scored two runs. Brenkman was 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI and Ben Clemens was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
