Placing in two events at the State 2A Track and Field championships, winning 24 events during the season and shattering two 33-year-old school records was more than enough for Port Angeles’ Gracie Long to be selected as the MVP among the girls track and field athletes on the Olympic Peninsula.
But, Long wasn’t the only girl to have a successful season. We selected the top 12 all-Peninsula girls’ track and field team from schools around the Peninsula. It wasn’t easy, and there were good candidates who didn’t quite make the team.
Below is our all-Peninsula girls track and field squad.
Aubry Botkin, Port Townsend sophomore. Hurdler, triple jump 19 first-place finishes as individual and relay member; 2nd in state 1A meet in 100 hurdles; 11th at state 1A meet in triple jump.
Morgan Bingham, Sequim Distance events 9 first-place finishes; 2nd in 1,600 at WCD 2A District, 3rd in 3,200 at WCD 2A district
Devin Edwards, Port Angeles Shot put, discus, javelin 12 first-place finishes; 15th at state 2A meet in shot put
Kynzie Deleon, Port Angeles freshman Distance events, 4×400 relay 7 first-place finishes as individual and relay team member; 8th at WCD 2A District in 800
Jennica Maines, Clallam Bay senior High jump, sprinter, relays 12 first-place finishes as individual and relay team member; placed in to eight in two individual and one relay event at state 1B meet, third at state 1B in high jump.
Ashara Dodson, Crescent. Discus 5 first-place finishes, third at state 1B meet in the discus
McKenzie Brannan, Crescent senior Javelin, discus 6 first place finishes; top javelin throw on Olympic Peninsula (103-4); 11th in discus at state 1B meet, 12th in javelin atstate 1B meet
Marissa Bailey, Forks sophomore Distance runner and sprints 11 first-place finishes as individual and relay team member; 12th in 800 at state 1A meet, 16th in 1,600 at state 1A meet
Atokena Abe, Clallam Bay senior Shot put, triple jump, relays 16 first-place finishes as individual and relay team member; placed in top eight at two individual and two relay events at state 1B meet.
Jada Trafton, Chimacum Sprinter, long jumper 3 first-place finishes, 14th at state 1A meet in long jump
Miriam Wonderly, Clallam Bay Sophomore 200 meters, relays 13 first-place finishes as individual and relay team member; placed in top eight in one individual and three relay events at state 1B meet.
