ALL-PENINSULA BASEBALL TEAM: The North Olympic Peninsula’s diamond stars

The 2019 All-Peninsula Baseball Team

• MVP: Johnnie Young, sr., Sequim: All-Olympic League first team selection as utility player, Young played every position but shortstop and second baseman for the Wolves. Led team in every major statistical category including a .472 batting average and .565 on-base percentage. Pounded out 25 hits, five of them doubles, along with a pair of triples, two home runs, 24 RBIs and 21 runs. Went 5-2 with a 3.09 ERA in 43 innings pitched. Compiled 38-4 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

• P: Brody Merritt, jr., Port Angeles: Roughriders ace finished season with 8-1 record, a paltry 0.933 ERA in 45 innings pitched with 54 strikeouts. Voted Class 2A Olympic League MVP.

• P: Hayden Woods, sr., Port Angeles: Lower Columbia-signee posted a 2-1 record with one save, a 0.618 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 22 innings pitched.

•P: Seth Scofield, sr., Port Angeles: Came on to post a 2.54 ERA in 22 innings pitched with 20 strikeouts. Signed to play for Umpqua Community College.

• P: Cole Dotson, sr., Chimacum: Cowboys No. 1 starter continually put Chimacum in position to win in games he pitched. Fared particularly well against Olympic League foe Klahowya.

• C: Joel Wood, sr., Port Angeles: Defensive mastermind threw out four potential base stealers behind the plate and oversaw a Riders pitching staff that totaled a 19-5 record, a 1.98 ERA in 159 innings pitched with 45 earned runs and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 159-72. Signed to play for Lower Columbia College.

• 1B: Bo Bradow, sr., Port Angeles: Shoreline Community College signee hit .420 with a .547 on-base percentage, a .520 slugging percentage. Had five doubles, 19 RBIs.

• 2B: Michael Grubb, soph., Sequim: Wolves’ cleanup hitter batted .279 with 16 Runs and 11 RBI.

• SS: Gavin Guerrero, sr., Port Angeles: Umpqua Community College signee was a defensive standout at shortstop and wasn’t too shabby at the plate either, posting a .349 batting average, a .432 on-base percentage with 29 hits, 25 runs and 12 stolen bases.

• 3B: Joey Oliver, sr., Sequim: Wolves coach Dave Ditlefsen said Oliver is the “best defensive third baseman I’ve ever coached.” Oliver hit .340 with a .453 on-base percentage, 18 hits, 18 runs and six RBIs.

• OF: Ethan Flodstrom, jr., Port Angeles: First-team All-Olympic Leaguer posted a .459 batting average /.593 on-base percentage and a .738 slugging percentage, with two HR, 25 RBI. Stole nine bases, scored 33 runs. Walked 18 times, hit by pitches eight other times.

• OF: Lucas Jarnagin, jr, Port Angeles: Another first-team All-Olympic League pick for the Riders hit .426 with a .500 on-base percentage and a .704 slugging percentage. Had 23 hits, including three home runs, a triple and four doubles. Drove in 21 RBIs and scored 13. Came up clutch again in postseason for Port Angeles.

• OF: Silas Thomas, jr., Sequim: Second-team All-Olympic Leaguer hit .333 with 18 RBI and 16 runs.

• Honorable Mention: Milo Whitman, jr., Port Angeles; Carter Windle, Forks, spho,.; Logan Olson, Forks, fr.; Trey Basinger, Forks, soph.; Jadon Seibel, sr., Port Angeles; Issac Purser, sr, Chimacum; Wyatt Hall, soph., Port Angeles; Tyler Bowen, jr., Port Angeles; Chase Newman, jr., Quilcene; Olin Reynolds, sr., Quilcene; Robert Comstock III, sr., Quilcene.
