PORT ANGELES — Peninsula Adventure Sports and its partner, North Olympic Healthcare Network, are teaming up with Lincoln Park BMX, Port Angeles School District Americorps and Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association to introduce kids in fourth through ninth grades to the world of multi-sport athletes in the “Little Hurt.”
The Little Hurt is a multi-disciplined event for kids similar to the Big Hurt. It includes three legs — biking on the Lincoln Park BMX track, rowing on machines provided by OPRA and trail running in Lincoln Park. Each participant does all three legs and prior biking or rowing experiences is not necessary.
There will be open house and practice opportunities for kids who want to do the race. An OPRA open house will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at 1500 Ediz Hook Road in Port Angeles.
This is open to people age 10 to adult, and all abilities are welcome. People will learn how to use the rowing machines and how to get on the water safely in a four-person boat. There is a free barbecue afterward.
The Lincoln Park BMX open house will be held Saturday, Sept. 25 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Registered racers can get familiar with the BMX track and can try out the rowing machines. They can also preview the running course through the park. There will be bikes available for kids that dont have their own.

The Little Hurt, set for Sept. 26, is limited to 160 participants total. There will be three categories — fourth- to sixth-grade; seventh- to eighth-grade; and ninth-grade.
The Big Hurt on Sept. 25 is an endurance race in and around Port Angeles for teams and individuals that consists of stages of mountain biking, kayaking, road cycling and running.
