ADVENTURE SPORTS: More than 300 compete in Railroad Bridge Run

SEQUIM — More than 300 participants ran the Olympic Discovery Trail from Carlsborg to Sequim in the Railroad Bridge Run this weekend, the second leg of the 2021 Run the Peninsula race series.

An additional 903 “virtual runners” from 48 states registered to run the 5-kilometer and 10 K races.

The virtual race is still open for registration at www.runthepeninsula.com.

The Run the Peninsula Series is sponsored by the Peninsula Daily News and Sequim Gazette. The Railroad Bridge Run was presented by Olympic Medical Center and Delta Dental of Washington.

Michael Lessor of Port Angeles won the 5K with a time of 18:18, and Shannon Newman of Maple Valley was the top women’s runner in the 5K with a time of 21:44.

The third of five races in the Run the Peninsula series is the North Olympic Discovery Marathon on June 6. This event from Blyn to the Port Angeles harbor has 5K, 10K, half-marathon, marathon and marathon relay distances. There is also a children’s marathon on June 5.
