PORT ANGELES — The adventure sports season begins this weekend with the return of the Frosty Moss Relay and Mini Moss in the hills and trails west of Port Angeles.
Registration ends at midnight Friday for the Frosty Moss races, which also include a 50-kilometer solo race.
The Frosty Moss is notorious not only for the tough Olympic Peninsula weather conditions runners can face in February, but the imaginative costumes and vehicle decorations teams employ.
The Frosty Moss Relay is the first race of the season put on by Peninsula Adventure Sports. It is an 80-mile, 15-leg team relay that goes from the Sol Duc River to the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe headquarters in Blyn.
The race follows the paved Olympic Discovery Trail and the unpaved Olympic Adventure Trail. The 30-mile race goes from Ediz Hook to Blyn. There will be an after-race party at the Blyn Banquet Room at 7 Cedars Resort from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday with food, drinks, music and awards.
Registration closes at midnight Friday. There is no day-of-race registration. People can register at www.tinyurl.com/FrostyMoss2023. Cost is $100 per person for the 80-mile Frosty Moss and $80 for the 30-mile Mini Moss.
Frosty Moss teams can consist of two to five people. There is a limit of 60 teams with four wave starts of 15 teams each.
The Mini Moss has teams of two to four people and is limited to 45 teams with four wave starts of 15 each.
The price for the Mini Moss solo 50K (31 miles) is $85.
In case of forced cancellation, teams will receive the choice of a free transfer to the following year or an 80 percent refund.
Peninsula Adventure Sports also puts on the GOAT Run, the OAT Run, the Gravel Unravel races and the Big Hurt.
