PORT ANGELES — Early pricing for the Frosty Moss Relay ends on Saturday.
The cost is $95 per team member for the full relay, $75 per team member for the “Mini Moss” and $85 for the Frosty Moss solo. Prices will go up after Saturday.
The Frosty Moss is the first Peninsula Adventure Sports race event of the year, to be held Feb. 25 along the trails surrounding Port Angeles and Sequim. Teams of two to five people run an 80-mile relay race along the paved Olympic Discovery Trail and the single-track Olympic Adventure Trail between the Sol Duc River and Sequim Bay.
The Mini Moss relay race course is 30 miles from Ediz Hook to Sequim Bay and the Frosty Moss 50K solo race follows the same course as the Mini Moss.
For team captains who have already signed up and created their teams, this is also a good time to make sure all their intended team members are signed up.
All participants in the 80-mile Frosty Moss will receive a free pair of socks from title sponsor Darn Tough Socks. This is a $25 value.
The Frosty Moss hashtag contest also begins this week and continues until race day. Peninsula Adventure Sports will be giving away a prize basket for the winning team, Frosty Moss or Mini Moss, that posts the most photos on Instagram and tag them with @frostymossrelay #frostymoss2023 and its team name. People can post as they are training.
The event will also have a gang of cyclists on hand called the Halo Brigade, completely with lighted halos on their helmets. Cyclists will hit the trail from the finish line, finding runners between Sequim and the finish line who may want company along the trail in the dark. Also, there will be course marshals from the Clallam County Fire District No. 3 after dark as people pass through the city.
Registration is also open for Peninsula Adventure Sports’ Big Hurt 2023, to be held Sept. 23 in and around Port Angeles.
The Big Hurt is a multi-sport race that includes four legs — mountain biking, kayaking, road cycling and running. Participants can race solo in the Iron Division or as a relay team.
There will be a brand new beer-tasting and music event just one block away from race central in downtown Port Angeles, called the Big Fun. Big Hurt participants will get discounted rates to attend the Big Fun after the race.
Also, the Little Hurt returns the day after the Big Hurt at the Lincoln BMX Park.
