ADVENTURE SPORTS: 450 runners get a big splash of color

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles’ Kynzie DeLeon won the Sun Fun Color Run 5K with a time of 20 minutes, 51 seconds.

DeLeon is a Port Angeles High School student who runs track and cross country for the Roughriders. Ben Sorenson of Sequim was the fastest male runner with a time of 20:53. Bryce DeLeon of Port Angeles finished third at 21:50.

The race took place at Albert Haller Fields in Carrie Blake Park on Saturday as part of the Sequim Sunshine Festival. A total of 450 runners participated in the 1K and 5K events. The event included eight color blast zones for the 5K and three for the 1K.

“It was a beautiful morning for the color run. An amazing and colorful time was had by all. We had participants from the age of one to seventy-seven and over 70 volunteers to help make this event as successful as it was,” said race director Victoria Jones.

Sponsors of the event included the Olympic Peninsula Visitor Bureau sponsored the color blast powder packet, Rudd Orthodontics that supplied Sunglasses for all the participants and Turrella Oral Surgery and Implant who made and sponsored the 5K awards.
