FORKS — The Crescent Loggers football team didn’t get the opportunity to move on to postseason, but did finish out its season with a 48-14 victory over North Beach to finish the season at .500 (5-5).
The Loggers got 312 yards rushing from senior Dom Sprague, playing in his last game for Crescent. Sprague ran the ball 31 times and had touchdown runs of 25, 8 and 16 yards. He also had 22 tackles on defense (12 assisted and 10 solo), a quarterback sack, a fumble recovery and deflected a pass.
“It was the best game of his career. He played hard,” said coach Brian Shimko. “He was getting a first down every time he carried the ball.”
Crescent added the game against North Beach in Forks because it didn’t make the postseason as the fifth-place team in the top-heavy Northwest 1B League.
In all, the Loggers totaled more than 500 yards of offense. In addition to Sprague’s big day, Mikah Love had a 65-yard run and caught three passes for 67 yards and a touchdown. Josh Berson ran four times for 43 yards. Henry Bourm passed 6-for-11 for 95 yards and threw three touchdowns and Levi Bourm had two catches, both of them touchdowns, for 28 yards.
Shimko felt it was a successful season for the Loggers, who finished in the middle of the expanded Northwest 1B League, which now stretches from the Cascades east of Mount Vernon (Concrete) all the way down to Tacoma (Charles Wright).
“We play in such a hard league. The kids did well with what they had to go through. I can’t wait for next year,” Shimko said.
