1B DISTRICT SOFTBALL: Quilcene cruises to title behind Kieffer’s 16 strikeouts

QUILCENE — The Rangers won their 1B district title, cruising to a 10-1 win over Oakville behind a dominant pitching performance from Bailey Kieffer.

Keiffer had 16 strikeouts and no walks, pushing her record to 13-1.

“She was pretty dialed in,” said coach Mark Thompson.

The Rangers also beat Wishkah Valley 10-2 on Thursday. Quilcene will be a top seed at the state 1B Tournament, which begins Friday at Kiwanis Park in Yakima. The Rangers’ first game will be at 1 p.m. against a No. 3 seed from the District 5, 6, 7, 9. That team has not been decided because rained-out playoff games still have to be played.

Thompson likes how his 16-1 team looks going into state. The Rangers (16-1) have placed at state the past four years.

“A lot of the players have played in these state tournaments. We have as good of a shot as anyone,” Thompson said.

In the Oakville game, Erin Macedo was 4 for 4 in the win with a three-run home run to blow the game open in the third inning. It was her second four-bagger of the district tournament.

“She’s seeing the ball really well right now,” Thomspon said.

Madison Coffey was 3 for 5 with a triple and two RBI. Kieffer had a hit with two RBI, while Alexis Gray went 3 for 4 with an RBI.

Sidney Brown was 2 for 4 with an RBI and Allie Speer was 2 for 2 with a triple and an RBI.
