I was sad to see that our City Council gave in to petty harassment when it discontinued fluoridating Port Angeles water.
I thank the writer of the the Aug. 5 letter in Peninsula Voices, “Fluoridation,” because she speaks more tactfully and succinctly than I could about what should be such a non-issue.
As she explains, fluoridated water safely and economically gives everyone, regardless of income and education, a chance for strong teeth.
I urge the silent majority to speak out, vote and answer even nonscientific surveys against any aggressive minority.
I personally experienced that aggression last winter when two fluoridation opponents followed me up First Street in Port Angeles and into a business after I said I favored fluoridation.
That this particular minority is even trying to devalue Port Angeles government from a code city to a second-class city is embarrassing and harmful.
What a shame that the time, energy, money and respect spent on fluoridation have not been directed to truly critical matters, such as climate change, racial harmony and improvement of our schools.
