LETTER: Look deeper

The picture on the front page of the Dec. 5 PDN presents an interesting dichotomy.

The signs held by the protesters tell the story quite well.

First, Kathy Gonzales: “I Regret My Abortion.”

I completely understand her message.

Second, Brian Hogan: “Planned Parenthood Your Choice.”

I completely understand his message.

Finally, Jim Hanley: “Forgiven: Coerced, Abused, Confused, Alone. Damned: Abortionists Supporters.”

I assume Mr. Hanley considers himself a religious person, so I understand the “forgiven” part; however, I have some concern regarding the “damned” part.

As a pro-life supporter, perhaps Mr. Hanley, and the pro-life movement in general, should look a little deeper.

As a pro-choice person, I reject Mr. Hanley’s condemnation and defer to a higher authority.

“Judge not, lest ye be judged” comes from the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5–7 of the King James Bible. Further, in Luke 6:37 “Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven.”

And finally, please, spare me the litany of citations that explains what Mr. Hanley thinks this verse means.
