PORT ANGELES — Investigators with Clallam County Sheriff’s Office and Clallam County Fire District 3 have found a body at the site of a fire that destroyed a double-wide trailer Sunday night.
Clallam County Sheriff Brian King said the body was found Tuesday afternoon inside the remains of the double-wide trailer that had been fully engulfed in flames on Peters Road on the west side of Port Angeles.
The identity of the person found dead had not been confirmed as of Tuesday.
On Sunday, multiple fire crews worked to douse the fire and aid the sheriff’s office in a search for the elderly resident of the home.
The body will be transported for an autopsy to determine identity, which King said also could help in the investigation to determine if the person died due to the fire or other circumstances.
The investigation into the fire and the missing man was turned over to the sheriff’s office Monday afternoon, and detectives and arson investigators arrived on the scene Tuesday morning.
“The scene has not been ruled as a crime,” King said Tuesday.
“We’re stilling looking for the cause and origin of the fire,” King said.
