PORT ANGELES — The application deadline for the 33rd annual Nico Snel Young Artist Competitions is Dec. 14.
The contests will be at 9 a.m. Jan. 19 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 E. Lopez Ave., Port Angeles.
A non-refundable registration fee of $20 is charged.
Competitors are to perform a selection of classical music of concert quality. This selection need not be a concerto and performances should not exceed 10 minutes.
Competitors are expected to announce their selections, say the full name of composer and the year the composition was written.
Competitors must provide their own piano accompanist for the competition; only piano accompaniment is permitted.
Results will be announced after the competition.
Cash awards for the 33rd Young Artist Competition are first place, $500; second place, $250, and third place, $200.
Awards for the 13th Junior Young Artist Competition are first place, $250; second place, $125, and third place, $75.
Awards are made possible in part by individual donors and by the board of directors of the Port Angeles Symphony.

Young Artist Competition (“Senior Competition”) is an annual winter event open to any North Olympic Peninsula instrumentalist (piano, strings, woodwinds, brass, percussionists, etc.) or vocalist, who is within the age range of 4–22 years old at the time of the competition, and who did not win first prize in the Senior Competition of the preceding year.
Junior Young Artist Competition (“Junior Competition”) is an annual winter event open to any North Olympic Peninsula instrumentalist (piano, strings, woodwinds, brass, percussionists, etc.), who is age 14 or younger at the time of the competition, and who did not win first prize in any prior competition.
