Year’s biggest meth seizure follows SWAT operation in Sequim

PORT ANGELES — A monthlong investigation yielded Clallam County’s largest seizure of methamphetamine of 2005 Friday and the arrest of a Port Angeles man accused of intending to sell the powerful and illegal stimulant.

Monty J. Robuck, 45, was apprehended in Sequim on Friday morning by the Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team and sheriff’s deputies for investigation into the delivery and possession of methamphetamine.

Other charges are pending and law-enforcement officials said they expect them to be filed later.

A 17-year-old girl with Robuck at the Sequim residence was also arrested.

The exact quantity of methamphetamine confiscated by authorities was not known, but Capt. Ron Cameron, an investigator with the Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team, or OPNET, estimated the amount to be about two pounds.

Detective Sgt. Dave Fontenot said it was the largest seizure of the drug this year.

“That’s not just good, that’s awesome,” Fontenot said.

Two types of meth

Officials noted that they seized two different types of meth, some which may have been produced locally, and another, more potent variety known as “crystal” or “glass.”

Cameron said the white, flaky and more expensive strain of the drug might have been produced out of state.

“We’re finding more and more of this,” Cameron said.

Patrol Deputy John Keegan, who helped lead the investigation for OPNET, would not say if more arrests were forthcoming, only saying that the investigation is on-going.

SWAT team assistance

A Washington State Patrol SWAT team assisted in the arrest of Robuck because he had made threats to others, Cameron said.

Officials attempted to arrest Robuck early Friday morning at his Port Angeles residence on West 10th Street, but he was not there.

Later he was seen driving toward Sequim. Authorities took him into custody at a Hammond Street address in Sequim without incident.
