Westport Shipyard Inc. and 200 well-paying jobs are coming to Port Angeles.
The Grays Harbor County-based company announced Tuesday that it will locate a luxury yacht-manufacturing plant on three acres in the Port of Port Angeles instead of Anacortes.
“We are tremendously pleased that Westport has made its decision to select Port Angeles for its new project,” Port of Port Angeles Commission President Glenn Beckman said in a statement.
“The community as a whole truly came together to support Westport, and it has been gratifying to see.”
Clallam County Economic Development Council Executive Director Jim Haguewood called the decision a coup for Port Angeles.
“It’s very exciting — this will have a tremendous impact (on the economy),” he said.
Westport Shipyard will also lease 40,000 square feet of space in a Port industrial building at William R. Fairchild International Airport.
The space will be used while the new plant is under construction in 2003.
