Wreck sends two to hospital, snarls traffic

PORT ANGELES — A traffic collision at Cottonwood Lane in the Morse Creek S Curve section of U.S. Highway 101 sent two Port Angeles women to Olympic Medical Center for treatment and snarled traffic in both directions Tuesday afternoon.

Frances A. Scott, 73, of Port Angeles was driving a 2008 Chevy Uplander minivan when she attempted to turn left into the westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 101 from Cottonwood Lane, the State Patrol said.

Scott struck Brook E. Meyer, 19, also of Port Angeles, the driver of a 2015 Hyundai Genesis sedan, with Meyer’s vehicle making contact with the front driver-side portion of Scott’s minivan.

Both drivers were transported to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles.

Meyer was treated and discharged, while Scott was listed in satisfactory condition Tuesday evening, according to OMC nursing staff.

Scott was cited for a failure to yield.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

State Patrol Public Information Officer Chelsea Hodgson said the incident was cleared around 1:30 p.m.

A lane of traffic was available in each direction as investigators worked the scene, but backups were reported in the westbound direction.

“One trooper called me after they cleared the scene and he said the backup stretched about 3 miles, from Morse Creek all the way up to the State Patrol Office,” Hodgson said.
