PORT ANGELES — Clallam County has set workshops for Federal Emergency Management Agency Flood Insurance Rate Map updates.
• Clallam County Board of County Commissioners will host a workshop with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday.
• Clallam County Planning Commission hosts a workshop from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. June 16.

FEMA is updating Clallam County’s Flood Insurance Rate Maps. The maps include the cities of Sequim, Port Angeles, and Forks. When updated with current risks, flood insurance coverage and cost of policies can change.
FEMA offers a 90-day public comment/appeal period on the update with residents able to appeal if they feel the map is technically and/or scientifically incorrect.
Comments also can be made to note information, such as missing information and/or misspelled road names, city staff said.
Property owners will be notified of the final maps’ effective date once comments and appeals are resolved.

Jefferson County adopted new maps effective June 7, 2019.
Flood maps as well as information on local flood hazard are available at the Department of Community Development at 621 Sheridan St, Port Townsend.
Also, you can determine if your property is located in a mapped floodplain by requesting assistance from a planner through DCD’s Customer Assistance Service.
