SEQUIM — North Olympic Peninsula residents interested in running for a public school board this year can attend a workshop Tuesday to learn more about what the job entails.
The free two-hour workshop, “Become a School Board Member,” is offered by the Washington State School Directors’ Association.
It will conducted from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Sequim School District board room at 503 N. Sequim Ave.

The Sequim workshop is one of 14 offered by the Washington State School Directors’ Association throughout the state to encourage people to run for school boards.
This is the only workshop planned on the Peninsula. It is for anyone who wants to run for any public school board.
“We want to help people feel comfortable with the election process and understand the work of school directors,” said Alan Burke, executive director of the state association.
“We encourage anyone who has ever thought about running for a school board to come and learn,” he said.
“There is no obligation to run after attending the workshops, but the workshops will be very informative for anyone considering it.”
The association will provide an overview of the roles and responsibilities of a School Board member and how to file to become a candidate.
Candidate filing week begins May 11 for the August primary.
The state association also scheduled workshops in Olympia, Seattle, Marysville, Mount Vernon, Kelso, Tacoma, Cle Elum, Omak, Wenatchee, Yakima, Pasco, Spokane and Chewelah.
