PORT ANGELES — A storm gathering over Death Valley, a woman with a wild bird at her table, a big driftwood raven: They’re all in “Art Convergence,” the show opening today at the city’s free art gallery, the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center.
Thirty-eight artists from Port Angeles, Sequim, Port Townsend and across the Northwest have been chosen for this exhibition, to stay on display through Jan. 10 at the center at 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
“I think viewers will find an eclectic offering of some fascinating two- and three-dimensional visual art,” said Michael Paul Miller, a painter and Peninsula College art professor, as well as a juror for “Art Convergence.”
Miller shared the judging duties with Port Townsend sculptor David Eisenhour, who also marveled at the variety here.
“There is work in wood, metal, stone, felt and other diverse, combined materials,” he said, “from Zen to complex.”
The show’s sculptures include “Raven II” by Tammy Hall and “Victorious” by Pamela Hastings, while paintings and photography range from Nancy Van Allen’s “Introspective” nude to Charlotte Watts’ “Sacred Text_Wave Break.”
While all of the art is for sale, admission is free to the exhibition and to a series of related events.
First comes the opening reception and award presentations from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.
Miller and Eisenhour will give a joint talk introducing the show at 1 p.m. Saturday. Right after their discussion, Lorrie and Ben Parris will give a Celtic harp-classical guitar concert.
The couple will return for three more free Saturday performances at the fine arts center, each from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., on Nov. 30, Dec. 7 and Dec. 21.
The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center has switched to winter hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays for the indoor gallery, while Webster’s Woods, the 5-acre art park surrounding the center, is open daily from dawn till dusk.
