PORT HADLOCK — A male Jefferson County corrections officer will not be charged in court for improper sexual contact with a female inmate.
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Scott Rosekrans said the decision was based not on lack of evidence, but instead on the unwillingness of the woman who brought the complaint to take the stand.
The names of the officer and the inmate have not been released.
“[Juelie Dalzell, prosecuting attorney] and I both had several conversations with the witness and she’s just not in the place where she can get on the stand,” Rosekrans said.
“I felt pretty comfortable with [moving forward with] the case, but she’s not emotionally in that place to be subjected to cross-examination.”
Dalzell said that earlier this year the Sheriff’s Office had given her a notebook several inches thick containing information about an investigation into a complaint from a woman inmate about a male corrections officer which was filed in late June.
Rosekrans said that the situation was sexual in nature.
