NEWS RELEASE FROM from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (written by Capt. Ben Stamper):
PORT TOWNSEND —
On May 10, 2013, at about 0851 AM, Jeffcom Dispatch received a 911 call from a homeowner on Tanglewood Lane near Cape George, reporting that she had interrupted a burglary in progress at her home.
The woman provided the description of a female suspect who fled in a Blue Chevrolet Suburban.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies soon located the suspect vehicle driving East on S. Discovery Road and observed it quickly turn into the Four Corners Mini Storage, then drive around the storage complex at a high rate of speed.
The female lost control of the vehicle and struck the cinder block storage building, causing structural damage to the building and appearing to disable her vehicle.
As deputies exited their vehicles to approach, the female was able to free her vehicle and backed into Deputy Brian Anderson’s 2013 Ford Police Interceptor causing non-disabling damage, then drove forward, causing the need for Deputy Scott Boyd to take evasive action in order to prevent being run over.
The woman then drove her Suburban back onto S. Discovery Rd. westbound, and was pursued a short distance before she lost control again and struck a large tree near the intersection with Milo Curry Rd.
Deputies arrested 32-year old Dakota M. McBride of Port Townsend and accompanied the ambulance to Jefferson Healthcare Hospital.
McBride was later transported under guard to a Seattle hospital for non life-threatening injuries to her leg.
Deputies are also investigating another recent burglary and mail thefts in the Cape George area as well in an attempt to learn if the woman is involved.
The Washington State Patrol and Port Townsend Police Dept. are assisting in the investigation.
McBride’s brother, Cordis E. McBride, was arrested by JCSO on May 09, 2013, in connection to 2 stolen vehicles and a vehicle pursuit.
(EDITOR’S NOTE: Cape George is a private residential community located in Jefferson County.
It is about four miles west and slightly south of Port Townsend.)
