PORT TOWNSEND — An 87-year-old woman lost control of her car earlier this week and wrecked in a ditch along Cape George Road near its intersection with Dennis Avenue, an East Jefferson Fire-Rescue spokesman said.
Firefighters removed her from her Toyota and took her to Jefferson Healthcare hospital for evaluation, said Bill Beezley.
The woman, a Cape George resident, was not identified. Hospitals cannot provide conditions for people without their names.
Cape George Road was closed to through traffic for about 30 minutes, Beezley said.
The woman had been feeling unwell and was headed northbound on her way to a doctor’s office when her vehicle drifted off the right side of the road and ran down the adjacent embankment, Beezley said.
The ditch was estimated to be about 15 feet deep where her car came to rest.
No other people were involved, Beezley said.
East Jefferson Fire-Rescue firefighters stabilized the vehicle before extricating her on a backboard to a waiting ambulance.
