Woman chased, arrested after hit and run

PORT ANGELES — A 27-year-old Bremerton woman was arrested Saturday evening after law enforcement officers said she fled the scene of a hit-and-run wreck earlier that day on Mt. Pleasant Road.

Barbi Danae Barnes, 27, of Bremerton, was arrested and booked into Clallam County Jail on investigation of felony hit and run; taking a motor vehicle without permission, a felony; and two misdemeanor warrants, said Clallam County Sheriff’s Sgt. John Keegan.

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Department, and officers with the Port Angeles, Sequim and the Lower Elwha Klallam police departments assisted in the pursuit and capture, Keegan said, adding that several witnesses pointed out the woman’s escape route to officers.

Four people suffered minor injuries, said State Patrol Trooper Michael DuFour, who collected information at the scene.

Keegan gave this account:

At 3:40 p.m., Barnes, who was driving a Dodge Caravan south in the 500 block of Mt. Pleasant Road, east of Port Angeles, and struck a Suzuki — also moving south — that was carrying four people.

Barnes drove away, and was followed by a driver who saw the wreck.

Barnes was traced to a home at the end of Draper Valley Road.

There, officers determined she had fled into an wooded area nearby.

The area was surrounded by Clallam County Sheriff’s deputies and Port Angeles Police officers, Keegan said.

Barnes was tracked by a Lower Elwha police tactical tracking team and the Sequim Police Department’s police dog.

Barnes was arrested in the 500 block of Patterson Road.
