Woman arrested in connection with Saturday stabbing

PORT ANGELES – A Port Angeles woman is being held at the Clallam County jail in connection with the stabbing death of an elderly man Saturday.

The woman has been identified as Andrea Jenette Freese, 32, who was a sometimes-roommate of the deceased, Charles W. “Bill” Boze, 73, who lived at 317 W. 11th St.

Freese is being held without bail at the Clallam County Correctional Facility in Port Angeles.

Freese had called 9-1-1 at about 7:40 p.m.

According to police call logs, Freese told dispatchers that she had been punched and had stabbed a man.

Police on Sunday could not confirm whether Freese was punched.

Police officers arrived with their guns drawn, neighbors said, and called for an ambulance soon after arriving.

Once inside the home police found Boze dead.

“It appears that an argument broke out and through the course of the argument, he was stabbed,” Detective. Sgt. Steve Coyle said Sunday.

Police would not elaborate on how many times or specifically where Boze was stabbed.

“It is very hard to say how many times he was stabbed because of the nature of the crime scene,” Coyle said.

He said he could not elaborate until after an autopsy is performed, he said.

Freese, whose face and legs were covered with blood, was transported to Olympic Medical Center where she was examined.

“She had no apparent injuries,” said interim Port Angeles Police Chief Terry Gallagher.

She was then taken to the Police Department where she was interviewed.

“Following that interview, Freese was transported to the Clallam County Correctional Facility and incarcerated, based on probable cause, for murder second degree,” a police news release said Sunday.

A knife found at the scene is believed to be the weapon used to harm Boze.

“It is a large knife, something that you would find in a kitchen,” Coyle said.

As of Sunday, Freese had not been formally charged.

Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney Debra Kelly is expected to make a charging decision early this week.

Freese and Boze appeared to be platonic acquaintances, police said.

“It appears that she was someone who was down on her luck, and he took her in,” Gallagher said.

No one else was present at the time of the argument.

Police had reports of a granddaughter who sometimes lived with Boze, but no contact had been made with her yet, Gallagher said.

Freese has an extensive record with Port Angeles police, mostly comprised of misdemeanors, according to police documents.
