PORT ANGELES — Businesses pinked up so well this year that four won the sixth annual Pink Up Port Angeles window contest.
Two tied for first place for their decorations: Angeles Beauty Supply and Olympic Stationers.
Two others tied for second place: Pen-Print and Strait Occupational & Hand Therapy.
The contest usually has one winner and three finalists, but judge Laurel Black, graphic artist, said the decorations were so outstanding that judging was difficult, said Linda deBord, organizer of the Pink Up Port Angeles campaign.
The Port Angeles Soroptimist Noon Club puts on a week of activities to raise money for Operation Uplift.
All proceeds go to the nonprofit, all-volunteer cancer support group in Port Angeles.
Fourteen merchants competed in the contest.
Others are First Federal Eighth Street branch, Strait-View Credit Union, Angeles Vision Clinic, Beauty and the Beach, Kitsap Bank, La Belle Creperie, Elwha Heritage Center, Ray Gruver State Farm insurance, Karon’s Frame Center and Moss.
“Kitsap Bank had an elevated message at the top of two pink pillars, a lighted wreath with the word ‘hope’ in the middle. I think that says a bundle,” deBord said.
The final event of the fundraiser was a dinner Saturday night at the Chestnut Cottage, where “celebrity” waiters competed for tips.
Soroptimists have yet to tally all proceeds. They had a goal of $50,000.
