BRINNON — Firefighters were working Sunday afternoon to quell a wildland fire in Olympic National Forest near Brinnon that was about 5 acres in size, according to the Brinnon Fire Department.
The fire department posted on Facebook on Sunday afternoon that the U.S. Forest Service would set up a command post at the Brinnon fire station, bringing more than 30 firefighters and support staff to the area.
The fire is near Lower Elk Lake, about 12 miles southwest of Brinnon.
“I do not anticipate the fire being a threat to Brinnon,” Chief Tim Manly said in the post.
“This is more to inform the community of the influx of people and fire apparatus on the roads.”
Reached by phone Sunday, Manly said he would provide more information Monday.
