State highway investigators still don’t know why a car driven by an 86-year-old woman killed in a two-car collision Thursday on U.S. Highway 101 crossed the centerline.
Kathryn G. Spencer of Port Angeles died after the car she was driving swerved, then cut across the centerline near Shore Road in the Agnew area and was struck by an oncoming sport utility vehicle.
Spencer, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene, troopers said.
The other driver was not injured.
Investigators are currently conducting interviews and will reconstruct the last 24 hours of Spencer’s life to “paint a picture” of what could have happened, said Trooper Brian George, a Washington State Patrol spokesman.
On Monday, troopers will meet with Clallam County prosecutors, who double as the county’s coroner, to determine if an autopsy will be performed.
Memorial services for Spencer will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Independent Bible Church at 116 E. Ahlvers Road, Port Angeles.
