It’s something that boggles the minds of Washington State Patrol troopers put in charge of protecting the North Olympic Peninsula’s highways.
Since Christmas Day, nine people were killed on state highways in Clallam and Jefferson counties.
Four of those deaths happened on U.S. Highway 101.
At a time when State Patrol statistics indicate the highways are getting safer statewide, an exceptional amount of people are dying on the North Peninsula.
“We are doing an awful lot of work,” said Trooper Glen Tyrrell, spokesman for the patrol’s District 8, which covers Clallam, Jefferson, Kitsap, Grays Harbor, Mason, Pacific and Wahkiakum counties.
“We’re doing the right thing.
“There’s just no rhyme nor reason to this stuff.”
