PORT TOWNSEND — Hudson Point or Point Hudson? That is the question.
The answer could come after a Port of Port Townsend public hearing on April 23 on a subject debated since Commissioner John Collins successfully campaigned for his seat late last year.
In the spirit of historical accuracy, Port Commissioner Bob Sokol, who served as port commissioner for three terms, proposed changing the port-owned site’s name from Point Hudson to Hudson Point in May 2006.
Shortly afterward, Port commissioners Herb Beck and Dave Thomson joined Sokol in unanimously approving the name change.
When he proposed the name change, Sokol had called the restoration and reopening of the Point Hudson historic hospital building a “momentous occasion.”
The port commissioners conducted their first meeting in the new hospital building conference room, but now meet in their chambers down the hall.
