What to do with your Christmas trees in Clallam County

Clallam County residents have several ways to recycle Christmas trees.

In Port Angeles, city waste collection crews will collect trees left curbside during the week of Jan. 15.

Trees must be cut into 4-foot lengths, bundled, and put out on the resident’s regular garbage collection day.

It is not necessary to be a yard waste subscriber to get this once-a-year free service, according to Helen Freilich, Port Angeles waste reduction specialist.

Trees should be cleaned of tinsel, flocking and ornaments.

Port Angeles residents can take their trees to the yard debris area at the city facility at 3501 W. 18th St., for a minimum fee of $5. The hours will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The facility will be a landfill until Saturday afternoon, when the waste will no longer be put into the ground. After it closes on Sunday and Monday for the New Year’s holiday, the facility will reopen as a regional transfer station. Trash will be trucked to Oregon.

Sequim residents can take their trees and yard waste to the Sequim Public Works utility yard, 163 West Hemlock St. Today and Saturday, no fee will be charged for Christmas trees.

After that, a minimum fee of $5 will be charged.

The Sequim yard is open from noon until 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Both the Port Angeles and Sequim facilities will be closed on Sunday and Monday.

West Clallam County residents can take trees to the West Waste Transfer Facility, 272 LaPush Road, in Forks, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.

A fee of from $3 to $5 per tree will be charged.

All Clallam County residents with cut trees should make sure their tree is recycled after Christmas,” said Freilich.

“Clean trees with no flocking, tinsel, and decorations are ground into mulch at a number of locations”.
