SEQUIM — In an emergency, switchbacks and tight corners could hinder ambulances and fire vehicles on some parts of the Olympic Discovery Trail.
And this, says a group of West Sequim Bay residents calling itself the Responsible Trail Alliance, is a safety factor that should be of concern.
The group’s spokeswoman, Judy Driggers, who owns property on Schoolhouse Point Road overlooking Sequim Bay, said the alliance has 37 members, most of whom oppose putting the trail on the waterside of U.S. Highway 101 east of Sequim.
The group formed after the Peninsula Trails Coalition held siting meetings in March.
Residents attending the meeting said they were worried about privacy and security issues if the Discovery Trail was built near their homes.
Driggers said the group isn’t bringing up safety issues to try to block the trail’s eastward expansion, or keep it from being built near property owned by her and others.
She said the group is bringing up issues because it wants to be involved in their solution.
