NEAH BAY — Shi Shi Beach has been selected by the Travel Channel as the best nature beach in the country.
The beach will be featured in a May 2003 program, “America’s Best Beaches.”
“We were looking for something different, and Shi Shi really stuck out,” said Jenny Beard, a Travel Channel producer.
“The program will feature the north side of the beach to Point of the Arches.”
Beard said the Shi Shi Beach portion of the program will be about seven minutes long.
The segment will feature commentary about the Makah tribe and natural features of the beach.
Shi Shi became part of Olympic National Park in 1976 and borders the Makah reservation.
The film crew hiked from the Makah reservation south along Shi Shi Beach trail to the beach and then hiked the length of the beach July 23, filming its rugged scenery.
Makah tribal members assisted the film crew.
