NEAH BAY — The Barbara Foss was back in action late Monday, more than a day after the state-funded rescue tug was called out to help a partially disabled tug towing a gasoline-loaded barge.
At about 9:45 p.m. Monday, the Neah Bay-based Barbara Foss was called to standby a tanker with a faulty fuel valve, the state Department of Ecology reported.
The 599-foot Norwegian-flagged tanker Jo Brevik carries industrial lye, although the amount of the load it carried Monday was unavailable, an Ecology spokeswoman said.
The tug met the tanker about 15 miles west of the mouth of the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
By the time the Barbara Foss reached the Jo Brevik, the tanker crew had completed repairs to the vessel’s engine, Ecology spokeswoman Sandy Howard said.
