FORKS — A ground-breaking ceremony for the Quillayute Valley Aquatic Center will take place this afternoon at the corner of Maple Avenue and Division Street.
Excavating for the long-awaited community pool has already started but will be officially marked by today’s short ceremony.
The groundbreaking will begin at 5:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
The “Wet End” pool, a dream more than 25 years in the making, is slated to be finished next May.
The Quillayute Valley Park and Recreation District last month signed a $2.2 million construction contract with Vision Builders of Port Angeles.
The plan calls for a lap pool, family pool, whirlpool spa, body slide, water spouts and pipe falls. The family pool will have a beach-style entry for easy access and shallow area for toddlers.
