LAPUSH — Coast Guard officials suggested Monday that their Quillayute River station in LaPush be converted into “auxiliary” operated by trained volunteers.
Auxiliary stations operate like a volunteer fire department, said Capt. Carl Bromund, readiness planner for Seattle-based 13th Coast Guard District.
The Coast Guard would provide equipment, maintenance and some funding.
But local volunteers man rescue vessels, he said. The Coast Guard would train the volunteers.
