SEQUIM — Coming up: “Homegrown Tomatoes” and a “hokey announcer guy.”
So promises Marcia Homer, spokeswoman for the Grand Olympics Chorus of Sweet Adelines International.
The 25-voice ensemble will take the stage twice Saturday for “Yahoo! A Harmony Hoedown,” the annual show starring men’s and women’s choruses and quartets at the Sequim High School Performing Arts Center, 601 N. Sequim Ave.
“This is not just a music concert but a musical production,” said Linda Muldowney, show chairwoman and a member of Aspire!, the medal-winning a cappella quartet about to deliver a new song set.
Show times are 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., with general admission at $12 and student and senior tickets at $10.
The first half of “Yahoo!,” Homer added, has announcer Chuck Roegiers as Bubba, the hokey one.
A member of the Kitsap Chordsmen barbershop singing group, Roegiers also wrote the script for the exuberant show.
Square dance, can-can
“These are the fanciest steps I can remember doing in a long time,” Homer said of the “Yahoo!” choreography, adding that the moves range from a mini square dance to a can-can.
Aspire!, with Muldowney, her sister Connie Alward, Amy Rose and Alena Menefee, won a silver medal at Sweet Adelines’ five-state competition in Spokane earlier this year.
The women will offer “Rocky Top” and other numbers and welcome their male counterparts, the quartet No Batteries Required.
Who’s participating
The Grand Olympics Chorus, the Olympic Peninsula Men’s Chorus and the band Power House are also part of Saturday’s proceedings, as are “Homegrown Tomatoes” by John Gorka, the Johnny Mercer-Hoagy Carmichael song “In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening” and “How You Gonna Keep ‘Em Down on the Farm (After They’ve Seen Paree)?”
The show is studded with humor and “glorious ear candy,” Muldowney said.
Those who come will “keep a smile on their faces all the way home.”
