SEQUIM — “The Mikado,” Gilbert and Sullivan’s play set in a town where flirting is a crime, continues this weekend at the Dungeness Schoolhouse.
Curtain times at the historic building at 2781 Towne Road are at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets are $15 each or two for $25 when purchased in advance.
The play stars Trent Pomeroy as Nanki-Poo; Karen Pritchard as his beloved Yum-Yum; Joel Yelland as Ko-Ko, Lord High Executioner of Titipu; and John Silver as Pooh-Bah, Lord High Everything Else.
The Peninsula Singers and Readers Theatre Plus put on a Gilbert and Sullivan musical every year at this time.
Satire of British politics
“The Mikado,” Gilbert and Sullivan’s satire of British politics set in Japan, opened in March 1885 and ran for 672 performances.
The show is a benefit for Readers Theatre Plus’ college scholarships, awarded every spring to Port Angeles and Sequim high school students.
