SEQUIM — A new Friday-night movie series, chosen by teenagers for teenagers, starts today with “I Am Legend,” Will Smith’s post-apocalyptic flick.
“Legend” will light the screen inside the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.
Admission is free, and snacks and drinks will be on tap as the movie starts at 5:30 p.m.
In “I Am Legend,” Smith’s character survives a worldwide plague and goes out searching for a cure to save humanity.
It’s based on Richard Matheson’s horror novel — which is of course available for checkout at the library.
The Sequim Library’s Young Adult Advisory Group has selected a slate of other movies for the final Friday of each month: “Casino Royale,” the James Bond picture from 2006, to be shown Feb. 24; and “Bringing Down the House,” starring Queen Latifah and Steve Martin, on March 30.
“Casino Royale” is of course one of the Bond books by Ian Fleming. It, too, is available for checkout by teens interested in comparing book to movie.
“Bringing,” based on the novel by Ben Mizrich, was inspired by the true story of a lonely man who meets a woman online. She’s in prison, but then she gets out and makes some big changes in his life.
Monthly program
“I do intend to have this [film series] be a monthly program and even extend it to weekly in the month of July,” said Antonia Krupicka-Smith, the Sequim Library’s full-time youth librarian.
Movies for April, May and beyond are yet to be chosen.
“A lot will be determined after the first couple,” she said.
