PORT ANGELES — Shula Azhar, Port Angeles’ well-traveled belly dance quintet, will give its first performance of 2014 at Wine on the Waterfront, the all-ages venue upstairs in The Landing mall, 115 E. Railroad Ave., tonight.
There’s no cover charge for the 7:30 p.m. show.
Shula Azhar features Lauren Jeffries-Johnson, Jovi Deede, Lisa Cornelson, Denise Williamson and Crystal Bledsoe offering their interpretations of Middle Eastern, Bollywood and tribal fusion dances.
Veteran dancers
The five, veterans of the Northwest Folklife Festival of Seattle, the Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts in Port Angeles and other arts showcases, are known for wielding swords, fans, goblets and jewel-toned veils in their performances.
Shula Azhar traditionally dances on the first Friday night of the month at Wine on the Waterfront.
And while there is no admission charge, the troupe accepts tips, which the dancers use for new costumes and to attend belly dance camps across the West Coast.
For more information, see Shula Azhar’s Facebook page or visit Udjat Beads, 129 E. First St.
