SEQUIM — The Olympic Express Big Band will kick off this weekend’s Sequim Invitational Coed Senior Softball Tournament at Carrie Blake Park.
The 18-piece band, based in Sequim, will start the tournament with music at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, then play dance music that evening for the softball players and the public at 7 Cedars Casino in Blyn from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Two senior teams from Sequim are in the annual tournament along with teams from Port Townsend, Bainbridge Island, Mercer Island, Renton, Bellevue and Maple Valley.
Play will be from 9:15 a.m. to about 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The public is invited to the games. Admission is free.
Coed senior softball has age requirements of 55-plus for men and 50-plus for women.
Special rules are in place to minimize contact during play, emphasize safety and provide positive social interactions among the players.
“Come on out and join the party,” said Bill Ellis, one of the Sequim players.
“Bed check is at 10 p.m. for ball players. All others, find an after-hours joint.”
