WEEKEND: Second Weekend arrives in downtown Port Angeles

“Today” and “tonight” represent Friday, Aug. 9; Saturday and Sunday are Aug. 10 and 11.

PORT ANGELES — The outdoors come indoors.

An antique shop sounds like Hawaii.

An artist takes her final Art Rock bow.

These experiences and more make up the Second Weekend art festivities tonight through Sunday; most are free. Here’s a cross-section of things to see and hear.

— “Vana’s Creations” is the new show at Karon’s Frame Center, 625 E. Front St. Artist Vana Arnold will be on hand during a free reception today at 6 p.m.; refreshments will flow until 8 p.m. Visitors will have a chance to win one of Arnold’s matted prints.

— Second Friday Art Rock, aka 2FAR, combines the band MCFD — Mydlyfe, Crysys, Fluffy and D-Ray — with artist Sarah Tucker making art on the spot at Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St., tonight. Tucker will give her last performance as 2FAR art coordinator by creating a piece while the band plays. That band is singer Mike “Mydlyfe” Colgan, guitarist Greg “Crysys” Marsh, Craig “Fluffy” Logue and Dylen “D-Ray” Heaward, who will get started at 8 p.m. The cover charge is $3.

After Tucker’s departure, Port Angeles artist Jeff Tocher will coordinate 2FAR’s art aspect; he can be reached at jdtocher@gmail.com.

— Singer and ukuleleplayer Roma Peters, who goes by the name Hawaii Amor, will play from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Elliott’s Antique Emporium, 135 E. First St.

— The parks of Victoria are among the subjects of Valle Nevaril’s paintings highlighted this month at the newly rearranged Landing Art Gallery. A free reception with live music by Howly Slim and refreshments from Smuggler’s Landing will go from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Landing Art Gallery inside The Landing mall, 115 E. Railroad Ave.

■– Hikes in the Cascades and Olympics inspire the art of Jean Sigmar, on display at Harbor Art, 110 E. Railroad Ave. Her experimental works include wool tapestries, watercolors and photography. Art lovers are invited to her opening reception from 5 p.m. till

8 p.m. Saturday.

— “Steampunk Art & Costumes” arrives at Studio Bob, upstairs at 118½ E. Front St., this Saturday. The show has a pair of free opening parties: 5 p.m. till 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Also, guitarist Thom Davis and harmonica player Mr. C will weave their music at The Loom, the lounge adjacent to Studio Bob, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.
