OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — Children can enjoy a variety of free activities, including ranger-guided walks, craft projects and outdoor games, during National Junior Ranger Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
The annual celebration will be at the Olympic National Park Visitor Center, 3002 Mount Angeles Road, Port Angeles.
The visitor center will have a wilderness “campsite,” search-and-rescue equipment and emergency service vehicles for hands-on exploration, and microscopes for an up-close look at insects.
The Children’s Discovery Room will be open for play.
Children must be accompanied by adults.
This year, the theme for Junior Ranger Day and National Park Week is “Go Wild!”
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act and the 25th anniversary of the Washington National Parks Wilderness Act, activities will highlight the wilderness resources of the park.
Olympic’s Junior Ranger program is a year-round way for children and families to experience the park.
Activity booklet
Children can complete the Olympic National Park Junior Ranger activity booklet, attend a ranger program and explore park nature trails to earn a Junior Ranger badge and certificate.
They also have the opportunity to participate in the new Ocean Stewards program and complete a hands-on activity booklet to earn an Ocean Stewards patch.
