PORT TOWNSEND — With the theme of “change the world and have fun doing it,” the Poetic Justice Theatre Ensemble invites the public to a “playshop” in social-change theater techniques this Sunday.
No prior theater experience is necessary, and while admission is a suggested $25 donation, no one will be turned away.
This three-hour program will start at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Rosewind Common House, 3131 Haines St.
The afternoon will include theater games, community-building activities, story sharing, music making and more, with opportunities to explore personal stories, said Zhaleh Almaee Weinblatt, who’ll lead the playshop with fellow Poetic Justice ensemble member Bethany Colden.
Personal, social issues
“Addressing personal and social issues can sometimes be a daunting task,” Weinblatt said.
But “when you incorporate embodied approaches and create a playful and respectful atmosphere, the work can go to deep places relatively quickly and in surprising ways.”
Now in its 14th season, Port Townsend’s Poetic Justice Theatre Ensemble is a multi-generational troupe of local actor-activists. Members range in age from 15 to 74.
A program within the nonprofit Mandala Center for Change, the ensemble was developed as a local community resource to stimulate dialogue and action toward a more just and joyous world.
